Networking Exercise02 - Myfiles

You are sometimes allowed send computer files TO or FROM a server - depending how it's been set up.
That's basically what "FILE SERVERS" are all about!

When you send a file TO a server, it's called UPLOADING.
When you retrieve a file FROM a server, it's called DOWNLOADING



Exercise
  1. DOWNLOAD SOMETHING
    1. Use Myfiles and locate the HANDOUTS folder for this class
    2. Locate the ILLUSIONS02.GIF and download it to your home computer's desktop
      1. Locate and select the X drive in myfiles
      2. Open up the "tree" to the appropriate HANDOUTS folder
      3. Select the appropriate file, and put a checkmark beside it
      4. Use FILE | DOWNLOAD from the menu and save it to your desktop
        1. You MAY get a "pop-up blocker" security warning - click DOWNLOAD
        2. The download may not work the first time - repeat the above 4 steps until you actually get the DOWNLOAD dialogue asking you whether you want to OPEN or SAVE the file - Choose SAVE and send it to your desktop
    3. Open the file on your desktop using MSPAINT. Maximize the window so it filles your screen and type your name in it. "Save As" the file using your name on the front of it, and then close the file.
  2. UPLOAD the NEW ILLUSION picture to the HANDINS UPLOAD TEST folder, and your done!
